| Der Indianersommer ist da mit seinen Aepfeln und Trauben, aber auch mit seinen immer bunter sich färbenden Blättern, welche endlich nur mehr eines leisen Windhauches bedürfen werden, um matt und saftlos abzufallen, als ein Bild des ewigen Wechsels, als eine Illustration des unabwendbaren Endes alles Desjenigen, das in das Leben gerufen wurde. Die Saison der Gartenfeste ist ebenfalls vorüber, denn die wenigen Nachzügler derselben sind eigentlich nur mehr Marodeure, welche nicht viel mehr aufzulesen finden, da die reguläre Armee ihrer Genossen bereits Alles abgeschöpft hat, was überhaupt abzuschöpfen war. Die Sommerwirthe zählen das eingenommene Geld und sind, wie wir vernehmen, der Mehrzahl nach durchaus nicht heiter gestimmt über das Resultat. Dafür aber hat die Wintervergnügungs-Saison thatsächlich unter den besten Auspicien begonnen; allerdings nicht für alle Etablissements, denn in einem der bekannteren englischen Theater hat ein Direktionswechsel stattgefunden, der, wenn er auch offieiell als ein ganz freiwilliger hingestellt wird, doch nicht so ganz freiwillig gewesen sein dürfte. Augustin Daly, der bekannte Sensationsdramatiker oder vielmehr Compilator und Bearbeiter von Sensationsromanen hat sich von der Leitung des Fifth Avenue Theaters zurückgezogen. Die Ausfälle des Sommers zu decken, führte er eine Compagniearbeit von Bret Hart [sic] und Mark Twain, dem eminenten Novellisten und dem bewährten Humoristem auf, und trotz der meisterlichen Darstellung des Specialitätendarstellers Parsloe in der Titelrolle des Chinesen „Ah Sin“, konnte sich das Stück nicht halten denn es „fehlte ihm das Rückenmark“. Was wollen auch der Novellist und der Humorist auf der Bühne? „Eines passet nicht für Alle“ und trotz einzelnem Bedeutendem, war das Stück eine dramatische Mißgeburt. On the other hand, the winter entertainment season has indeed begun under the best auspices; not for all establishments, however, because in one of the better-known English theaters a change of management has taken place, which, even if it is officially presented as entirely voluntary, may not have been so voluntary after all. Augustin Daly, the well-known sensational playwright, or rather compiler and arranger of sensational novels, has retired from the management of the Fifth Avenue Theater. To cover the losses of the summer, he performed a collaborative work by Bret Hart [sic] and Mark Twain, the eminent novelist and the proven humorist, and in spite of the masterly performance of the speciality actor Parsloe in the title role of the Chinese man “Ah Sin,” the play could not sustain itself for it “lacked spine.” What do the novelist and the humorist want on the stage? “One does not fit all” and in spite of its individual significance, the play was a dramatic failure.
