| Der Humorist Mark Twain, bisher nur als Plauderer und Novellist bekannt, ist jetzt unter die Bühnenschriftsteller gegangen. Vorläufig freilich ist er nur als Uebersetzer deutscher Stücke in's Englische aufgetreten. Schon vor einiger Zeit hatte er die Absicht ausgesprochen, ein Stück, das er in Wien gesehen und das ihm außerordentlich gefallen, für die englische Bühne zu bearbeiten, kam aber mit seinem Plane zu spät. Nunmehr hat er sich an mehrere Stücke auf einmal gemacht: Philipp Langmann's „Bartel Turaser“, Ernst Gettke's und Alexander Engels' „Im Fegefeuer“, - daß er auch ein Lustspiel von Blumenthal und Kadelburg übersetzen will, haben wir schon erwähnt. | The humorist Mark Twain, hitherto known only as a conversationalist and novellist, has now become a playwright. For the time being, of course, he has only appeared as a translator of German plays into English. Some time ago, he had already expressed the intention of adapting a play for the English stage that he had seen in Vienna and that he had liked extraordinarily, but he was too late with his plan.
