| Mark Twain, der bekannte amerikanische Humorist, den man im comfortablen Genuß eines reichen Einkomens wähnte, ist, wie er neulich bei einer Gerichtsverhandlung unter Eid zugestehen mußte, ein armer Mann. Aber seine Geisteskraft ist nicht gebrochen und seine Feder wie seine öffentlichen Vorträge sollen ihm neue Einkünfte bringen. Das amerikanische Publikum, das dem liebenswürdigen Humor des populären Schriftstellers so manchen Genuß verdankt, wird wohl dafür sorgen, daß ihm die zweite Auflage des „Roughing it“ nicht zu schwer fällt. | Mark Twain, the famous American humorist, who was thought to be enjoying the comfort of a rich income, is, as he recently had to admit under oath at a court hearing, a poor man. But his strength of mind is not broken, and his pen as well as his public lectures are expected to bring him new income. The American public, which owes many a pleasure to the amiable humor of the popular writer, will probably see to it that a second edition of “Roughing it” will not prove too difficult for him. |
