| Heute Abend findet bekanntlich die Jahres-Reunion nebst Bankett des „Vereins der Maryländer Unions-Veteranen“ in „Rennert's Hotel“ statt und verspricht besonders interessant zu werden. Unter den Rednern werden sich nämlich Gen. Geo. C. Rogers und Oberst Hill vom Departement des Innern in Washington, die Generäle Burdette, Black, Horace Porter u. A. befinden, und namentlich ist man allgemein auf das Erscheinen des bekannten Schriftstellers und Humoristen „Gen.“ Mark Twain gespannt, welcher übrigens telegraphiert hat, daß er nicht auf einen bestimmten Toast erwidern, sondern das Thema, über welches er zu sprechen wünsche, selbst auswählen möchte. | As you know, the annual reunion and banquet of the “Union Veterans Association of Maryland” will take place tonight at the Hotel Rennert and promises to be particularly interesting. Among the speakers will be Gen. Geo. C. Rogers and Col. Hill of the Department of the Interior in Washington, Generals Burdette, Black, Horace Porter and others; there is a general anticipation of the appearance of the well-known writer and humorist “Gen.” Mark Twain, who, by the way, has telegraphed that he will not reply to any particular toast, but will himself select the subject on which he wishes to speak. |
