| Der neue Flotten-Minister Chandler ist ganz und gar dagegen, daß die Ver. Staaten auch nur noch einen Cent für Entdeckungsfahrten nach dem Nordpol-Meere hergeben. Treffend sagt er: „Noch mehr Forscher nach dem Nordpol auszusenden, würde ebenso thöricht sein, wie wenn man den Versuch machen wollte, die von Mark Twain in Vorschlag gebrachte Entdeckungsfahrt nach der Hölle zu veranstalten.“ | The new Secretary of the Fleet, Chandler, is totally opposed to the United States spending even one more cent on expeditions to the North Pole. Aptly he says: “To send out any more explorers to the North Pole would be as foolish as to attempt the expedition to hell which Mark Twain proposed.” |
