| Im hiesigen „National-Theater“ gelangte heute Abend Bret Harte's und Mark Twain's neues Schauspiel „Ah Sin“ zum ersten Male zur Aufführung. Nach dem Schlusse der Vorstellung verlas Hr. Varney eine Depesche aus Hartford, Conn., von Mark Twain, in welcher derselbe mittheilte, daß er durch Krankheit verhindert sei, der Vorstellung beizuwohnen, und daß er auffordere, über das Verdienst des Schauspiels abzustimmen. Hr. Varney stellte darauf die Frage an das in großer Anzahl versammelte Publikum, und dasselbe entschied einstimmig, daß das Stück ein Erfolg fei. | This evening Bret Harte's and Mark Twain's new play “Ah Sin” was performed for the first time in the local National Theater. After the close of the performance, Mr. Varney read a dispatch from Hartford, Conn. from Mark Twain, in which he said that he was prevented by illness from attending the performance, and that he requested a vote on the merit of the play. Mr. Varney then put the question to the crowded auditorium, and the audience unanimously decided that the play was a success. |
