Live at Mona's: Traditional Irish Music on New York's Lower East Side

Field Recordings, March 31, 2003

The first night of recording at the Mona's session was also the night in which New York City's smoking ban went into effect at midnight. Mona's bar had stunningly ineffective ventilation (a forgotten pre-Covid reality) and the bartenders, who didn't smoke, were all wearing nicotine patches. We spent some of the evening trying to muffle Patrick's feet, even throwing a jacket under the table. He quickly realized that "the feet" were an essential part of his playing, and we scrapped any attempts to change things.

Musicians on this night included:

Patrick Ourceau, fiddle
Eamon O'Leary, guitar and banjo
Dana Lyn, fiddle
Greg Anderson, bouzouki and guitar
Mick Moloney, banjo
Elizabeth Mullins, flute
Deirdre Corrigan, flute
Sahra Featherstone, fiddle
Tom English, drum
