Lack of crosswalks on South Main Street

As a student here at the University of Delaware without a car, my main mode of transportation is walking. This alone poses some difficulties for me. For example, I must rely on my friends to take me to the grocery store when they go. I don’t have a car so I must remain on my friend’s schedule. A way I have ameliorated this issue in the past is by using Instacart which is an online grocery store delivery service. In the past I have used Uber to get to and from the grocery store but that proved to be wildly expensive. The best solution is to take the bus I know; however, to be truthful I have little experience and am a bit reluctant.

The second purpose of this entry is to discuss the lack of crosswalks on my street here in Newark. I live on South Main Street and if you are unfamiliar, there are only two cross walks, both in which are a great distance from my apartment. Because of this, my roommates, most students that live on South Main, and myself jaywalk daily. This is the quickest way to get to and from our housing but poses a major threat to our safety. South Main is a four lane road with cars traveling in both directions.
