Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

Car dealerships along campus

Seeing this reminded me of how so many neighborhoods including this one are so heavily car centric. This is a problem in a lof suburbs, where everything is often too far to walk to. In this area there was also no crossworks for the whole stretch of the road. Lastly, this reminds of how since we are so car centric this often means their is more carbon intake in this areas. Because of this carbon intake we are directly affecting the environment. This car centric environment also affects those that are unable to afford a car. These people then have to rely on public transportation, which is often underfunded and unreliable. A lot of these type of neighborhoods don’t offer public transportation, so in some cases you might have to use uber or other similar transportation, which can be expensive. Overall, this area represents a problem that many Americans have to face daily.
