MARCUS' FIQWS BOOK: My Journey As A Writer In FIQWS Psychology Of Social Media

Exploratory Essay Refelection

When I first heard that our first writing assignment was going to be a literacy narrative I became perplexed. I wasn’t sure what a literacy narrative actually was and how I would go about writing the essay. With my original confusion, I didn’t imagine how I was going to relate it to something that I use every day, social media. I knew that It would be a burdensome to write and that I would encounter difficultly while constructing the essay. After the professor explained the prompt briefly I was aware of what was expected in the narrative but couldn’t develop an idea right away. When I made an attempt to complete the narrative I had started in one direction however, finished in another. I had written three drafts of different examples and just couldn’t grasp one that had a strong message and went along with the directions of the narrative. When I finally discovered the idea that social media had led me to read more than I ever did I was able to run with the topic.

I was prompted to write about this subject because when I was provided with sticky notes, a sharpie and an easel. I was able to walk around my house and sound out the words that were placed on objects. My essays characteristic features are showing how simple everyday objects taught me to read and write. I was prompted to write about the subject because it showed my upbringing with literacy and how I developed a relationship with words. In order to discover the worlds news, it requires a little reading.  As I finished the literacy narrative essay I was not confident with the quality of the work. I feel that I did not think through the topic as well as I should’ve but this could’ve been due to the topic being challenging and not making an actual connection with me fully right away. While in class we had demonstrated the course learning outcome of drafting, revising and editing by working collaboratively with our peers to better our narratives. This illustrated how it’s important to have another outlook on your writing for the other reader can determine if the essay is good or needs to be worked on. Furthermore, the learning course outcome of writing a specific genre in which this case was a literacy narrative allowed me and my peers to express how social media affected our lives and helped us to read and write.
