Rubrication and Decoration

Decorated initials appear through folio 5, then seem to be replaced by reader-supplied initials in brown or reddish ink, and sometimes are lacking altogether. Rubrication of chapter headings, beginnings of paragraphs, and tables is consistent, however.

Rubrication and decoration were carried out unevenly through the first quire and may have been done in a hurry well after the manuscript was written, folded, and stitched.
