Learning for Fun: the Cleveland Museum of Natural History

Why the CMNH

In University Circle there are three colleges, two large hospitals, and museums. Out of these museums the Cleveland Museum of Natural History seems to teach the most actively out of all of them. Alongside each exhibit or display is plaque or video that explains what you are seeing. This elevates the museum from that of a purely pleasant visual experience to one that has some educational value, which is not to say that the visuals that they do have are not pleasant to look at and can still be viewed on their own. Because of this added element of teaching that was present I chose to explore techniques for teaching, specifically visual and interactive, and why they are successful. The CMNH sets up a good environment to explore and be engaged most, if not the entire, time.
