The Atlantic awaits

When I arrived at the designated pick-up location and met up with my classmates, we awaited the arrival of our school bus. I had not ridden a tradition school bus since the 8th grade. That was the last fieldtrip of my youth and I was unaware of how this trip on a little, yellow school bus would effect me. Seeing the way that american society neatly covers-up its wasteful, suffocating, over-consuming culture was an awakening I did not expect to encounter.

But before arriving to the landfill, my classmates and I boarded our vessel, The Atlantic Express. The name of the little, yellow school bus struck me as ironic. The Atlantic connotes images of the ocean, pristine coastlines, perhaps the fun of a boardwalk carnival. But our atlantic adventures would transport us to a vastly different landscape.
