Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.
The float is built onto the back of a truck. usually, the week before rag week the first years are involved in their orientation and Ienkmelodienks. During this week, the seniors will prep the trucks and get all the preparations in order. This is done during the days, and then at night, socials are organised with the other various residences.
When the first years join, at the beginning of RAG week, they are tasked with "vouing blometjies". what this refers to is the act of making the colorful pieces of plastic that cover the floats. The seniors weld and create the intricate parts of the float while the first years effectively produce the materials and help put where they can. This blometjie vouing is taxing on the fingers and hard work, however it is an amazing social opportunity. First year student will sit with others and socialise, making friends and meeting new people.
