Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

TuksRag ("Reach out and Give") is a non-profit charity organization with a strong tradition of public service and charitable contribution. It is the largest student driven charity organization in South Africa. Tuks RAG is a student driven charity organization dedicated towards developing students through their active participation in fundraising and community service initiatives. At time of writing (2011), Tuks RAG is the largest organization of its kind in South Africa, and the third largest in the world.
Located at the University of Pretoria, Tuks RAG has grown from strength to strength during the past 70 years, encouraging students to join in the fun of serving the community. The contagious Tuks RAG spirit has a reputation for turning fund-raisers and community outreach projects into worthwhile memories. All proceeds collected by Tuks RAG are donated to numerous beneficiaries. Hence the word "RAG", which is an acronym for "Reach Out and Give".
From a residence perspective, RAG is embraced by all the students, and has led to it being integrated into Res culture. Students are actively involved in short term and long term community projects. There is great participation by the the student houses including residences, faculty houses and day houses. From this charitable initiative comes many traditions and shared events for all the residences, as well as RAG partnerships, projects, socials and community engagement.
For many years now RAG has been slowly changing in an effort to to coincide with modern standards of acceptable behavior. The changes began to take place from 2013 onward. A ban on alcohol, as well as many changes and cancellations of many popular events and traditions has led to the decline in RAG involvement as well as the funds they raise since 2012, what many consider to be the last true Rag experience.
What is the true RAG experience? In order to understand the rag experience as well as all of its traditions and cultures, we will start at the beginning of every RAG journey. RAG Partners Please look below, and start your rag journey.
