As kid I always idolized about being one of those cool mobsters and living the exciting life Italians live in the movies. But entertaining programs are just that, entertaining. The gangsters of the prohibition days are over and the gangster image that they bring to mind have become a period piece just like any fiction movie about pirates or cowboys. The Italian culture attached to these movies may or may not be represented correctly, but I for the most part I don’t think Italian Americans really care. Much of the old culture and old ways were lost when we were accepted and assimilated into the WASP population, and most people who have Italian blood don’t really care about whether the old customs portrayed are done correctly or not, just as long as the film is done with a good spirit. Yeah so what if our most famous people are singers and gangsters? I say that the media is pure entertainment and if you start to worry if Italian culture is portrayed accurately my advice would be...Fugget About It!!!
