AN INSIGHT INTO THE REGENERATIVE THERMAL OXIDIZERS



Air pollution
Industries are the major source of air pollution which has numerous hazardous effects on our environment.  Environmental Protection Agency EPA studies have confirmed that the chemical industries are responsible for the 50% of air pollution. To control air pollution, the Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer also known as RTO has been introduced to the world. Regenerative oxidizers
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) are mostly hydrocarbons containing hydrogen and carbon elements. Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO), like New regenerative thermal oxidizer, is designed in a way that disrupts the hydrocarbons by using tremendously high heat of almost 650°C (1,202 °F). These hydrocarbons are converted into less harmful compounds such as H2O and CO2. The three most important factors are observed in RTO, for example in CPI regenerative thermal oxidizers, the temperature is required for combustion reaction, the residence time is required for the reaction to destroy volatile organic compounds VOCs and hazardous Air Pollutant HAPs, and turbulence factor cannot be ignored.

The turbulence factor is important to maintain the mixture of combustion air and air pollutants. The regenerative thermal oxidizer works as it utilizes a bed made up of ceramics which is warmed from the past oxidation cycle to preheat the inserted gases to halfway oxidize them. The preheated gases enter an ignition chamber that is warmed by an outer fuel to arrive at the objective oxidation temperature which is in the reach between 760°C i.e., 1400°F and 820°C i.e., 1510°F.
