INTL 190 - Haiti in a Transnational Context

Conclusion

The comparison between Haiti and Chile’s education sector has shown significant differences and similarities. Of the major differences is the structure of the education system. In Haiti, both the public and private schools ask for tuition fee which parents find to be unaffordable and results in many children staying out of school. This is quite different with the Chilean structure where the government caters for free eight years of primary education. In this regard, the public schools do not ask for tuition fee as the government funds primary schools. Another difference is that in Haiti, teachers go through a three years training period while in Chile, teachers go through five years of training. Similarly, the teaching practice is highly appreciated in while in Haiti, teaching is among the least appreciated professions. In terms of similarities, the one that stands out the most as a common factor in the education sector of the two countries is the domination of private schools. Both countries are dominated by private schools which can be said to bring about the stratification in the education realm of the two countries in terms of the socioeconomic aspect.
