Keesling was the Director of Admissions for IU East during the 1970s. He attended Earlham College and graduated with an A.B. in physical education in 1956. He then taught and coached at Union City and Jackson Central schools. He later attended Ball State and graduated with his M.A. in Education in 1963 and was working on a Ph.D. in administration during the early 1970s. He started working at IU East in 1971, and he was named the Assistant Director for Administrative Services during the late 1970s. Keesling was also the Superintendent of Randolph Southern School Corp. in Lynn starting in 1978.
