He begins to give some bad advice on acting masculine which leads to a fight in which Mulan becomes the most hated soldier in the entire camp. So far he has been mediocre at both his true job and in terms of his true intentions. Mushu is very selfish throughout because he repeatedly endangers Mulan when he is supposed to bring her home. The reason the movie is so loved is because we have a hero who is determined to do something because it's hard and everyone tells her not to do it. Mushu helps provide a second voice to the film to bring sanity to Mulan's aspirations and paint her family as intolerant.
