African American Humor, Irony and Satire... (2009)
Williams posits that using humor, irony, and satire as an analytical lens is especially useful for highlighting both the “complexity of African American life and culture” and the “connections between African American and world cultures” (3). The collection, which grew out of a 2006 conference on Ishmael Reed sponsored by the Department of English at Howard University, extends the discussion on African American humor by examining both traditional literary texts by Black authors as well as representations of satire in popular comedic works.
