Throughout history, there has been a significant trend in racial relations between white America and the African American people. The outcome of an unjust system has resulted in the corruption of government policies, social policies, and white America itself. There is an inherent bias against black people, shaming them for anything and everything they do. There is never a time where you do not hear about an innocent black male or female being shot or arrested or gunned down. There is a pattern in society today which wreaks havoc on the impressionable young minds of those who have the potential to have power in the system. The system is defined as the people in the government who determine the rules and the laws as well as policies affecting and helping those who most need it and those who do not need help at all.  The term inequality when specifically focusing on African Americans tends to mean the rigged economics of race in America. The two most focused topics are economic insecurity and racial inequality. These economic trends have battered African Americans, making them the truest face of economic inequality. Blacks are nearly three times as likely to be poor than whites and more than twice as likely to be unemployed. Racial disparities have only increased but instead of it being inherent and directly in the black cultures face it is interwoven into society and the government has found a way to create this inequality. Racial discrimination has gotten sneakier. Implicit prejudice is running rampant from the beginning of slavery to today, 2017. Forms of racial bias by anyone in power of even a normal citizen is not seen but they act and operate in a way with an unconscious awareness that their thoughts, opinions, and actions are acting against a specific race. Because these modern forms of discrimination tend to be less visible, it is harder to find the solutions and terminate this type of thinking. The minds have become enslaved. Slavery is the very reason for inequality today. Although there are no humans who are physically enslaved by anyone, society has become enslaved to racial disparities and inequalities.

The history of a vicious cycle of slavery trapping anyone who crosses its path has created emotional pain that will never be lost in the black culture. This pain has been illustrated through the creation of black art. Be it literature, photography, sculptures, and paintings, this is the avenue to make that pain go away. The image of inequality is depicted and the African American artists can tell their story. It is important for them to use their art to show their experiences of pain and helplessness. It is so easy to see this type of trend when looking at any literary work or even sculptures. There is an inherent theme in these works and that is the pain they have experienced through generations; the only difference is it is in the eye of the beholder of this pain.
