Fort Snelling

Faces of the Concentration Camp

The concentration camp at Fort Snelling was unique in that is was located only a few miles from Saint Paul (Minnesota's largest city at the time) and was often open to media, reporters, and tourists. Because of this, we now have photographs that offer us a glimpse into the lives that were forever changed over the winter of 1862 and 1863. Here are the faces of just a few.
