Exploratory Essay Reflection
When writing this paper, i decided the audience to be young adults. I believe that how i formatted the paper and the word style i used was effective in having young adults understand. Nonetheless, i wanted to inform the audience on this rising problem. Many young adults are not aware of the seriousness of this issue and teaching them will teach further generations on the topic. This paper was an informative one and it was in a report style. Even though this paper was solely informative, when having read the paper you can get a hint of what my stance was which as obviously against climate change.
Writing this paper seemed very easy to me at the beginning since it was an informative research based paper. However, finding peer reviewed and scholarly articles was the most difficult part of this paper for me. Since it was my first semester in college, I had hard time finding sources and using CCNY's library. However, we did have 2 info sessions that the library guy gave us in order to help us find resources. Even though that did help, it was a different story when i tried doing it at home. However, I was able to ask my peers for help. Another aspect of this paper that was challenging for me was the annotated bibliography. I found it difficult since it was a specific format for every different type of source. After receiving help from my professor, my classmates and the online resources (Purdue OWL) i was able to get the basics on how to format my annotated bibliography.
In regards to writing the paper itself, we were able to have conferences with professor McIntosh in which she gave us feedback on our papers. Overall, i had to be specific in what my topic was since it was still very vague. In class, we were given the opportunity to peer review our papers with certain outline questions our professor put on the board. This made peer reviewing easier since we were looking for specific aspects of each others paper and I was able to receive a much better feedback. I received very positive feedback but once again my peers told me that my paper needed a better focus. In order to do this, i added specific information regarding my topic so it could overshadow the initial climate change information i had put in the beginning of my paper.
This paper was very effective in my opinion and it taught me a lot of things i didn't know that are going to help me write future papers. (ex: annotated bibliography, how to find resources online and in databases)
