Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

I had previously taken a film course in which we studied different films, but it mostly focused on American culture. Because of this, I was a little confused at first and didn’t really follow along. However, as the movie progressed I was able to pick up many of the different intricacies and was able to recognize the story as a whole. One thing that surprised me about the film was that it kept my attention through comedy rather than the typical martial arts scene.
Even though the film is a martial arts film, I feel like it was made for a much wider audience. The film has many similarities to American culture and films. One scene that I noticed in particular was when Sing was being chased by the Landlady. It reminded me of scenes from Looney Tunes when Coyote is chasing the Roadrunner. Another similarity that I found was Sing and Bone to George and Lennie from Of Mice and Men. Overall, the film was enjoyable and it opened me up to new ideas from other cultures while I watch film.
