Izzy Scappaticci

                           About

Hi everyone! I'm Izzy, an off-broadway audio engineer and second-year Screen Studies student at the Feirstein Graduate School of Film. I aim to focus my studies on the representation of minorities within children's cartoons as I have experience working with kids when I taught middle and high school English. My ultimate goal is to understand how the medium, message, and distribution of media affect children and students of color. I look forward to exploring activism as it pertains to youth culture in this class, though more specifically how children and young adults of color have been affected or chosen to participate in it.

Class Work

Week 1: We were assigned to study and present on any personal archive of our choosing. For this project, I decided to research "Atlas," a continual archival project created by German artist Gerhard Richter. To see my presentation, click HERE

Week 2:  This week we were told to focus on annotating one particular video within Professor Juhasz's digital archive. For this project, I decided to make my annotations research-based with links to online resources and brief descriptions of each link. I chose to focus on the video "AIDS in the Barrio: Eso No me Pasa a Mi" as it draws upon sex education within Latino culture of the late 1990s. I was drawn to this particular video due to the fact that the Latino side of my family lived in NYC during the AIDS crisis in the 80s. To see video along with my annotations, click HERE

Week 6
For my remix project, I presented a zine I created detailing my own experience with activism. In it, I reflect upon the development of my understanding of activism in a digital era and how our relationship with it has changed since the popularization of social media. Week 8: This week we were expected to provide a report on the virtual archive we visited and reflect upon what methods we're choosing to use for our final projects. The archive I chose to focus on was Reporter's Without Borders' Uncensored Library on Minecraft and the method I reflected upon was the use of perosnal websites. Week 9: This week we were expected to provide a report on our community partners for our final projects. My report focused on evaluating my own personal school and work communities and how I plan to interact with them through my online resource website:
