‘Paratext’ here refers to multimedia extension of film, and not (despite not being wholly dissimilar) to the concept in literary context as theorized by Gérard Genette (1991). Paratexts, such as DVD and Blu-ray extras like audio commentary, behind-the-scenes materials, screenplays, et cetera, are now commonly found on the Internet as well (for example IMDb’s trivia page or DVD extras ripped and uploaded on YouTube).
