Exploration in Digital Literature

"soundings....[what haven't you heard?]"

In the screencast at the below, the short, written paragraph describes a futile attempt to find the deepest part of the ocean. However, the text continues to change, altering the time and series of events for each of these attempts. This demonstrates the sheer number of failed attempts to determine the depth of the ocean, and consequently highlights how much about the ocean we still fail to understand. Additionally, the fact that the text changes faster than it can be read acts as another source of confusion for the reader as they attempt to explore the ocean through Carpenter’s work. The depiction of the diverging depth lines below the text along with a key reading “apparent depth” reinforces this point.
