Women’s Storied Lives

Teen and Young Adult

Often considered to be one of the most awkward and influential stages of life, teenage years and young adulthood are when people venture to find themselves. Although it's deemed difficult for most, this task is especially arduous for women, as they are constantly being manipulated and pressured to fit within the standards of polite society. How do you find yourself if you can hardly leave the house without being judged? And how can you love yourself if everyone says you're not worth it?

Literary works written by and for young women offer readers a way to look at their age group from an outside perspective. With this new point of view, teenage girls are able to internalize or reject the ideals presented within each work. Reading can help growing women learn more about themselves and feel validated within an unsatisfying society.
