Love Canal & Enviornmental Justice
The fourth principle talks about how there should be a universal protection against the disposal of toxic/hazardous wastes that threaten the basic right to clean air, land and water.
The ninth principle protects the victims and says that they should receive full compensation and reparations for damages as well as quality health care.¹
These principles have clearly been violated during the Love Canal tragedy because the land and people's homes became contaminated by the chemicals that were buried underground. It also took drastic measures to get help from the government when people started falling ill and dying due to all of the chemicals. Moving forward we must implement the sixteenth principle that says we must educate ourselves of both past and present matters were social and environmental issues are involved.
