Hope Within Despair: Dark Souls Climate Change Analysis Part III
To end the in-game analysis, one important fact to brush up on is that FromSoftware, the genius behind Dark Souls, has released Elden Ring since 2016. Elden Ring was even more critically acclaimed than Dark Souls, being voted game of the year in 2022. It has a lot of similarities to the previous worlds but differs with its many endings.
Like Dark Souls before it, the enemies that inhabit this world are being twisted and corrupted by the elden ring's shattered fragments as they provide discord to the environment. The elden ring, like the first flame, was the source of power and life for the world, so it makes sense as to why this shattering would alter the lives of the inhabitants. Additionally, the world is in a state of distress, with entire castles gone and ruins scattering the map.
As the player character, the Tarnished, travels through this world, they will encounter various environmental hazards and obstacles, such as treacherous swamps, crumbling ruins, and harsh weather conditions. However, among this decay, there are also signs of life and renewal. The player will encounter pockets of vibrant flora and fauna, as well as various factions and characters who are working to restore balance and repair the damage caused by the Elden Ring's shattered fragments. It gives the player hope and determination to help this fledgling world.
As in most games, it all comes to an end. However, what is important to be cognizant of is that, as mentioned previously, Elden Ring's ending represents a future under good care. One specifically, called the Era of Order or Age of Order, represents hope and change for the environment and the entire world it takes place in by showcasing the power of the elden ring to heal and restore balance and nature. In the end, you as the character join forces with the elden ring, which comes from nature in the first place, which helps restore the world to its former glory. As the Elden Ring is restored, the world transforms, with lush vegetation and new life springing up everywhere.
This represents a powerful message of hope for the real world, where environmental destruction threatens our lives. There is always a chance for change and renewal if we work together and harness the power of nature. It encourages us as humans to take action in the real world—to protect and preserve our environment—and shows that even the smallest of actions can have a really large impact in the long run. Overall, Elden Ring's ending serves as a reminder of the importance of working towards a sustainable future.
