Mike's Technology Challenge - NL 5 - 9/30

http://www.scoop.it/t/new-learning-chapter-5

This week, I tried Scoop.it for the technology challenge, and I didn't really see a way to add notes about NL 5 (so they are on the other page for this week). What was cool though was that I could take a topic, add tags, and then it populated a search for websites related to those tags. The site also had you install a bookmark whereby you can "scoop" any website you visit, and it will show up on your Scoop.it page.

When I was adding sites to my page on learner personalities, I found one article about a father's love's impact on personality development in children, and I was able not only to "scoop" it but share it on LinkedIn too in a very easy way. Great integration of social networking devices.

This would be a great way for students to organize, keep track of, and even share web resources for a research project or other learning activity. It's not great for taking notes, but there are a lot of other possibilities.

Amy's Prezi this week really opened my eyes to the possibilities of using embedded video within Prezi. I've done this before, but her integration of it in the page looks much more embedded than how I did it. I love it! I would be interested to know how she did here page on 'learning.' It almost looks like a screenshot. I'd like to know how to do that.

Kim's MindMap through Mindomo blew me away! It looks like Popplet on steroids. I love all the images and videos that were able to be integrated. I haven't been exposed to these 'mapping' web apps until this class, and they have a lot of potential for collaborative in-class work. I could see students working in groups to flesh out ideas for essay or projects, as a kind of 'pre-writing.'

Kim Comment on Mike NL5 Scoop it

I really like your idea about using this tool as a way to manage and organize research. I also like that you were able to comment on articles you had included. With the comment function you could create a kind of annotated bibliography
