Mike's Technology Challenge - BR 10 - 11/4

Google Presentation

I really don't have much experience with Google Presentation. I've spent the past few days putting together over 60 slides in PowerPoint for two conference presentations. I had originally started creating a very carefully and thoughtfully structured Prezi until I discovered a huge design flaw: Prezi cannot play a sound file over multiple "paths" (or slides), which is outrageous (I spent hours trying, convinced that everyone online must be wrong about this). So, I turned to PowerPoint, having not used it in a long time (I don't like it very much). I thought about using Google Presentation, but honestly, I have lots of technical issues with Google's cloud-based services, and I just didn't want to (and couldn't afford to) deal with that.

So, comet to find out, once cannot embed audio at all in Google Presentations, which is even more absurd than Prezi. I cannot understand this, except that they don't want these files getting huge perhaps. I brought in some videos easily (through youtube links).

I tried to do something a little "creative" in the sense of imagining Medina's chapter as an illustration of Schoenberg and his music. Not sure if it works or not, and I am no expert on Schoenberg by any means, but still: the experience tonight of Schoenberg combined with the experience of also listening to Dr. Gillian Dooley, whom I'm staying with in Australia, sing soprano (beautifully, I might add), her home imbued with music throughout, makes me want to fly home and imbue my home with more music, for my daughter. Medina's research support that this is a very good idea.

Amy's LiveBinder - I really like how you formatted these notes: the tabs that go across the top of the screen, with rows of tabs underneath. I'm curious whether or not there is any limit to the series of rows one might create. The user interface in LiveBinder looks very easy to use, and the display of the media is clean. The program reminds me a little bit of Scalar, just with a more modern interface. Awesome presentation, Amy!

Kim's Easel-ly - I was glad to hear that there were a lot of templates to choose from. nothing is more irritating than finding a really cool program but being limited only to a handful of templates, the site always prompting you to upgrade to a paid version in order to access more. I like how Kim integrated the content of the BR reading with the design of her notes. I attempted to do something similar in my presentation, which perhaps speaks to how music moves us and makes us, in a sense, responsible to it.

Kevin's comment on Google Presentation

I enjoyed viewing your slides and reading your comments about Google Presentations. It is a shame that you were unable to get it to work the way you wanted to. However, when I used it, I liked the idea of embedding the YouTube links.
