About The Author
My name is Taylor Campbell and I am a graduating student in the Liberal Arts degree program at Capilano University in North Vancouver, British Columbia. As part of the requirements for this degree, a graduation project is necessary. My project, which has taken shape in the form of this website, was born from a variety of personal interests that were thoroughly researched over the course of several school semesters. A total of three research tutorials were completed before the final project began. My interests in narratives led me to explore the world of Electronic Literature and digital writing with Aurelea Mahood, a professor in the English department.
Much of my research revolved around the theory's crafted by scholar's such as Abbe Don, Marie-Laure Ryan, and N. Katherine Hayles. I had previously studied these author's during an Electronic Literature class and had some familiarity with the terms and concepts. With a strong theoretical background in place, I was able to break down Digital Literature into it's many diverse parts while demonstrating the connections each sub-category had among the others.
My second research project was with Rita Isola who works within the Sociology department. Together we investigated the parallel between the exponential progress of technology and how it affects the classes of society. Much of the theoretical work that was researched during this project was that of George Ritzer, Neil Postman, and Jaron Larier.
My final research tutorial before beginning this final project was mentored by Tyee Bridge from the communications department. Our research involved investigating current issues with regards to journalism and theorizing possible solutions to these concerns. Author's that I studied in order to fully understand the issues that journalism is facing included, Don Gibb, Paul Benedetti, and Linda Kay. The basis for this graduation project came from one of my possible solutions which was the idea that, tools of the digital platform that were being utilized by writers of Electronic Literature, can be applied to narratives of a journalistic manner in order to create interesting and informative pieces.
