Dean Foods
In 1925, Samuel E. Dean Sr. purchased the Pecatonica Marketing Company, an evaporated milk processing facility in northwestern Illinois. In 1927, the name was officially changed to Dean Evaporated Milk Company. Two years later, the name changed again to Dean Milk Company. It wasn't until the 1960's that the company took on the name that we know now; Dean Foods Company. Since then, the company has acquired dozens of brands selling ice cream, cultured products (yogurt, buttermilk, sour cream, etc.), juices, teas, bottled water, and of course, fluid milk. Some of their brands include Dean's, Land O' Lakes, Mayfield, Fruit Rush, Swiss Premium, and Trumoo. They also own an interest Horizon Organic and Silk soy milk under their subsidiary "The WhiteWave Foods Company," although they no longer own a controlling interest.
