A precise definition is difficult to formulate as Dadaism is a movement which functioned on the basis of contradictory, distinct principles, which operated to denounce order. Many scholars even assert Dada means nothing at all. This defiant, innovative initiative between global actors was primarily in defiance to nationalism, which they believed was the catalyst for war and violence. Hence Dadaist's work sought to dismantle authoritative ideas on autonomy, authenticity, and originality. To attack these convictions, artists utilized a diverse range of mediums such as collage, montage, chance, ready-made and the journal.
