This has caused much anxiety among those who have fled atrocities and persecution in their home countries. Many fear what they will find upon their return, others have never known a life other than that of a refugee in exile. For them, there is no home country.
In recent days the party led by Aung Sang Suu Kyi, who has always championed ethnic rights and democratic rule, has won Myanmar's parliamentary election. Hopefully soon, Myanmar will become a home to so many of the people living in the refugee camps of the Burmese-Thailand border. It remains to be seen how people, once repatriated, will fare given their limited educational opportunities and a lifetime lived in the restricted environment of the camps.
