UMAS
The majority of Chicana/os in Colorado who were students during the height on the Movement in the late1960's and 1970's were members of UMAS, United Mexican American Students. UMAS was established in 1968 in order to increase Chicana/o enrollment at the University of colorado, Boulder. In the fall of 1968 students found out that there were only nine Chicana/o students enrolled at the major university, this realization pushed them to establish the first chapter of UMAS in Colorado. After this UMAS chapters could be found throughout Colorado. Although it was a student organization on campus, UMAS was a movement of itself and in its beginning you can see a no-nonsense attitude that was carried by active UMASer@s.
