Your Music, My Music, Our Music: Cincinnati Women Musicians at King Records and Today

Wonky Tonk (Jasmine Poole)

Wonky Tonk (Jasmine Poole) is tied to King Records because her uncle, Kenny Poole, played with James Brown.  She notes that King recorded to two genres that were not mainstream at the midcentury: R & B and Country. She finds herself drawn to Bonnie Lou because her music was both country and Rock and Roll. Wonky Tonk believes that recovering the women who made music at King Records empowers contemporary women by showing that what has been done before can be done again. In turn, this will continue to open doors for women musicians in the future.
