Your Music, My Music, Our Music: Cincinnati Women Musicians at King Records and Today

Chelsea Ford

Chelsea Ford
Chelsea Ford is a Cincinnati singer-songwriter who recently picked up the guitar, and soon after learned banjo, upright bass, and some washboard.

She categorizes her music as bluegrass and country because you have no control over what you write,” but she loves covering blues and jazz music as an exercise in stretching out her voice. This mix of genres reflects her early music education, in which she listened to a lot of King Records artists, especially those in the genres of “hillbilly” and “race”— she name drops Lula Reed as an inspiration. The Women at King project resonates with her because she believes in the importance of “knowing where you came from and how your roots have grown.”
