Choosing & Using Sources: A Guide to Academic Research at CSU-Pueblo

Common features

Library databases are produced by many different vendors, but they all share the same basic functionalities. These are features you can expect to find in the library's databases.

Save Search

After you've run your search and applied limiters, there is an option to save the search you've constructed. This is helpful when you've tried several search combinations, have arrived at a list of results that you think will be useful, but don't want to remember everything it took to get there. Do not copy & paste the page URL at the top of the screen -- it will not work when you try to use it later. Instead, you need to find the permalink.

In Academic Search Premier, click on SHARE, near the top right of your search results. At the bottom of this menu is an option to copy & past a persistent link to the search. This is the link you will need.

Cite

In SuperSearch and other library databases, look for a button called CITE. This will generate a citation in one of several styles, including MLA, APA, and Chicago/Turabian. You can copy and paste this citation into your works cited list. Remember to double-check the formatting for accuracy before you submit your paper.

Email, Download, and Print

You should also see options to email, download, or print the article.
