Eastern Culture Nucleus: Chinese Rare Books in the USC Libraries

Access and Use of
the Chinese Rare Book Collection

As the majority of Chinese rare books at USC are catalogued, you can search them by title or author in Chinese or pinyin Romanization in the USC Libraries' online catalog. Each title featured in this exhibition includes a link to the catalog record in the metadata, which can help you to locate the title in the library.

Chinese rare books at USC are non-circulating and mostly stored in either Special Collections or the East Asian Library. You will need to request them for use in the reading rooms in advance before visiting the library. For books shelved in the Special Collections, please send your requests through their Specialized Research Collection Request System. You can learn more about the system and instructions from the Special Collections website. For books shelved in the East Asian Library, please send your requests to eal@usc.edu at least three days in advance.

For more information about the Chinese rare book collection at USC Libraries, please contact Tang Li, Chinese Studies Librarian at tangl@usc.edu. If you are interested in other special and archival collections available in the East Asian Library, please visit Digital Projects from the East Asian Library and East Asian Archival Collections on the East Asian Library website for more information.
