Changing Landscapes: From "The ASU Story" to Modern A-State

Student Free Time

As you have seen in other parts of this project, the landscape of Jonesboro is ever-changing and growing. While Jonesboro has certainly changed a lot since its founding in 1859, the one thing that has remained constant for the last 109 years is the presence of Arkansas State University, and obviously where there is a college there will be college students. Now the one thing that links over 100 years of these college students is there attendance at Arkansas State University, however with Jonesboro at a constant growth it begs the questions what do students do in their free time, and how has it changed throughout the years? Those two question is what I tried to answer as I surveyed Arkansas State Students from the 1960s all the way to current students, in an effort to see how much things have changed and what has stayed the same in regards to what we do with the time not spent at Arkansas State. I have decided to divide this into two parts The more things change, which highlights the difference between alumni and current students and The more they stay the same which highlights the similarities between them.
