Those that were deemed as "undesirables" on their home planets were often sentenced to exile. 

The mode of transportation? 

A huge missile that was shot off into space called an Exilpod....essentially a death sentence.

Little did the officials on those planets know that the coordinates they were sending their rejects to was a habitable planet not much different from their own...
