At present, Malamud is in the East on a Ford Foundation grant, which stems this latest novel, which all about an instructor who comes from New York to join the faculty of a Pacific Northwest state school, called Cascadia, in the town of Marathon...The author certainly has captured the feel of the Willamette Valley's beauty--could Marathon be Corvallis? He explores the sad lack of an adequate literature course at Cascadia College--could this be Oregon State?
