Pages 35-38 - "disagreeable radical"

While A New Life avoids direct one-on-one comparisons with the real world, the dates given here match almost directly with the dates of the Spitzer case. Spitzer was employed for three years total, whereas Duffy was only employed for one year. However, both were dismissed in 1949 over similar issues. This strongly suggests that the character of Duffy was heavily inspired by Spitzer.
