A New Life: Reception History
Our project invites visitors to explore how Bernard Malamud’s A New Life was received at the time of publication and onward, across the United States and the globe. In addition to reading local, national and international reviews, visitors can visualize relationships between reviews within our interactive site. Compare the content and inclinations of reviews from a small geographic area at a single point in time with our map layout, or trace criticism and praise for the book across geographical and temporal distances using a variety of filters. Reviews are also categorized by their reception as primarily positive, negative, or neutral. In addition to exploring the interactive map, visitors can search for reviews in our database by date, place and publisher.
