Facade

The façade consists of an arrangement of arches, pilasters, walnut doors, glass windows and two lions’ heads, with attention to classical notions of harmony. Most of the red bricks are in dire need of repair and the entire facade now lays in a state of disarray, standing amidst 21st century facades, caught somewhere between a time during the early years of the first world war and a modern-day Ottawa. It holds a sort of magnificence that can find common ground only with that of ancient Greek ruins; a typical day in front of the theater now consists of busy men and women on the downtown walk to work, avoiding the occasional pan handlers and perhaps at times stopping to stare at the old façade. Other than the massive “imperial” sign that used to hang from the front, the street level structures at the façade, and the total damage, not much had changed since the beginning. The real changes took forth within the walls, as each owner modified the interiors according to their own needs and that of the time.
