Qualitative Research:
USC Security & Political Economy Lab
Investigated the causal pathways that supposedly link natural resources, specifically hydrocarbons, to the onset, duration, and intensity of civil conflict. Conducted a replication study of Michael Ross’ (2004) seminal paper, critically assessing his research design, investigating for observables and coding for hypothesized mechanisms, analyzing these hypothesized pathways in terms of the limits they pose on explaining the causal chains (focus on Algeria’s civil conflict in the 1990s).Participatory & Creative:
Embodied Storytelling & Immersive Docu-Narratives Course
Practiced utilizing a worldbuilding methodology in collaborative workshops in order to ideate and create a multimedia exhibit/installation (converted online due to COVID). Attended & analyzed exhibits. I created/led 3 workshops for student organizations to practice this speculative futures/science fiction method of change-making (ie Novus Think Tank, Wrigley Ambassadors).
Media Arts & Practice Thesis
My thesis can be found here. It explores imagination, change-making & investigates the influence of auditory environments on behavior. Throughout the process, I practiced various prototyping activities as seen within the piece.
Storyboarding/wireframing for more creative projects can be found on the Creative Artifacts page.Research Synthesis:
USC Spatial Sciences Institute
Synthesized research on the state of global material flows, governance, economies, socio-economic life cycle assessments, extended producer responsibility, government procurement, circular economy, sector initiatives and product/packaging design for Dr. Robert Vos’ upcoming book on the 12th SDG.Quantitative Coursework:
Graduate Life Cycle Assessment Coursework
- Conducted a comparative Life Cycle Assessment of the Global Warming Potential of Alternative Building Materials in South Los Angeles, California, particularly comparing prefabricated polystyrene-plywood structural insulated panels and straw bale structural insulated panels [data extraction/categorizing from technical & scientific literature; analysis; condensing/presenting results].
- Conducted an economic-input output life cycle assessment to assess the carbon footprint of constructing different freeway alternatives.
PPD Public Policy & Planning Analysis Coursework
Developed skills in applied analytic modeling and data manipulation using Excel. Lab exercises in visual interpretation/presentation of data, needs assessment, market failure analysis, indexing, extrapolation, simple forecasting, risk analysis and cost-benefit analysis. -
