Leszczynski - Late Minoan Creature Covered Gems

Introduction

A collection of  Lentoid gems engraved by Minoan craftsman.     This collection spans the Late Minoan I-II period to the Late Minoan II-IIIA period or the years 1600 BCE - 1300BCE.     Some served a useful purpose as seals.  Lentoid is used to describe them simply becuase of their Lens-like shape.  Material used by the Minoan craftsmen in this collection are Jasper, Agate Carnelian or Marble.  These objects were all borrowed from The Met and are all classified as gems.  Minoan craftsmen engraved their lentoid Gems with everything animals, plants, human figurines, mythical creatures, action scenes and anything else their creative mind could come up with.  In this collection our gems are adorned with animals and one mythical creature.
